Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post, channeling my inner “hands-on blogger” persona, based on the title “cushions Volleyball lvl larch timber”:
Alright, so the other day I had this… project. I wanted to make some, uh, landing pads? Cushions? Yeah, cushions for volleyball practice. My kid’s starting to get serious about it, diving all over the place, and I figured, gotta protect those knees (and elbows, and everything else, really). Plus, my shed is a mess. Time for some action.
The Wood
First up, the wood. Decided to go with larch. I have used pine, fir, and larch, larch has much longer outdoor life, so, yeah, I picked some larch.
I wanted to use some scrap wood, so I dig and found some old larch timber I had lying around. Figured it’d be perfect – sturdy, weather-resistant(I plan to drag them outdoors), and, most importantly, free. Always a good price, right?
Cutting and Stuff
I got my tape, then I decided to use a pen to mark on the wood. So I mark and mark…Oh, forgot to mention, I used hand saw. I like using hand saw for small projects like this, feeling myself 100% in control, LOL.
Assembling… Sort Of
Okay, confession time: I’m not the best carpenter. Precise angles? Not my strong suit. So, the frame for these cushions? Let’s just say it’s… rustic.
I used screws, and some glue to put those timbers together. Clamped ’em down, let the glue, well, set overnight.
The Cushion Part
The wood frame, that’s just the… skeleton, I guess. The real magic is the padding. I went with old foam mattresses. Again, free is the best, and these are going to take a beating anyway.
Cut that foam with a bread knife, then glued them with some all-purpose glue I got in the store. To protect the foam, I wrapped old clothes around them, and nailed to the wood.
The Final Result
The final result is what you might call, functional, not pretty. But hey, they do the job! Kid’s been diving on them like crazy, and no complaints so far. And that’s a win in my book. And, I cleaned up the shed a little bit. Double win!
Next project… maybe something that doesn’t involve power tools. Or maybe I’ll just go buy a new volleyball. We’ll see.
