Well now, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here floorin’ stuff, the kind they use for volleyball and such. I ain’t no fancy expert, mind you, but I’ve seen a thing or two, and I know what lasts and what don’t.

First off, they got this stuff they call “laminate.” Now, laminate, it’s kinda like a picture of wood glued onto somethin’ else. It looks nice and shiny when it’s new, but I ain’t so sure about how long it’ll hold up. Kids these days, they jump and stomp somethin’ fierce, you need somethin’ that can take a beatin’. I heard tell some folks use it ’cause it’s cheaper, but cheaper ain’t always better, ya know?

Then there’s the real wood, what they call “hardwood.” Now, that’s the stuff! Solid as a rock, that is. Takes a polish real nice too. But it ain’t cheap, no sir. And you gotta take care of it, keep it dry and all. Water’s the enemy of wood, warps it somethin’ awful.

They got this other thing too, “engineered wood“. It’s like a sandwich, with real wood on top and layers of other stuff underneath. Folks say it’s stronger than laminate and not as pricey as solid wood. Seems like a good compromise to me, kinda in-between. They say it don’t warp as easy as the real stuff neither, which is a good thing, specially if you got a leaky roof or somethin’.

  • Now, when it comes to volleyball, you need a floor that’s got some give to it.
  • Them young’uns are jumpin’ and divin’ all over the place, you don’t want ’em breakin’ their ankles.
  • So they put somethin’ underneath the wood, some kind of cushion, to make it softer.
  • I heard tell they call it “sprung undercarriage” or somethin’ fancy like that. Sounds complicated, but I guess it works.

And then there’s this “portable” business. That means you can take it apart and move it around. Handy if you ain’t got a permanent place for your volleyball court. Like if you’re havin’ a tournament or somethin’ in the town square. They just lay it down, play the game, and then pack it all up again. Pretty clever, if you ask me. Though I reckon it takes a strong fella to lug all them pieces around. These youngsters these days, they ain’t built like they used to be.

Some folks, they use rubber too, for the floorin’. Kinda bouncy, like them playground things. I guess it’s good for the joints, all that cushionin’. But it don’t look as fancy as wood, does it? Still, if it keeps them kids from gettin’ hurt, I reckon it’s worth considerin’. Safety first, that’s what I always say.

And don’t forget about the engineer part of it. That means somebody smart figured out how to make it all work together. They done the math and the measurin’ and all that. So you can trust it’s gonna be strong and safe and last a good long time. Leastways, that’s the idea. You still gotta take care of it though, nothin’ lasts forever if you don’t treat it right.

So, there you have it, a little bit about volleyball floorin’. Laminate, hardwood, engineered wood, portable, rubber… it’s enough to make your head spin. But the important thing is to get somethin’ that’s strong, safe, and fits your budget. And don’t be afraid to ask questions, them fellas at the store, they know more than I do, that’s for sure. But I gave you the basics, didn’t I? Now you go out there and make a good choice, ya hear?
