Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here… what’s it called? Laminate dancin’ hevea timber, yeah, that’s it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t so complicated once you get down to it.
See, this “hevea” wood, they also call it rubberwood. I reckon that’s ’cause they get rubber from it, you know, like them bouncy balls the kids play with. It’s a tree, see? Grows big and tall, and they cut it down and make stuff outta it. Floors, tables, chairs, all sorts of things.
Now, this “laminate” part, that’s like… well, it’s like a picture on top of somethin’ else. Like, you got a piece of wood, but it don’t look so pretty, so they stick a purdy picture on top, and bam! Looks like a fancy wood, but it ain’t. Sometimes they put that picture on top of that rubberwood, makes it look even nicer, I guess.
Why would they do that, you ask? Well, I heard tell it’s cheaper that way. Real fancy wood, that costs a pretty penny. But this rubberwood stuff, it grows fast, they say. So it don’t cost as much. And then they slap that picture on top, and there ya go, looks expensive, but it ain’t. Smart, huh?
I seen some folks with floors made outta this stuff. Looks real nice, I gotta say. Shiny and smooth. But I wonder, how long will it last? Real wood, that lasts a long time, you know? My grandpa had a table made outta somethin’ strong, lasted him his whole life. This new stuff, I don’t know. Seems kinda thin, if you ask me.
- They say it’s good for the environment, this rubberwood. ‘Cause they plant new trees after they cut the old ones down. That’s good, I reckon. We gotta take care of the trees, they give us air to breathe, you know?
- And they say it’s strong, too. But I seen some scratches on that laminate stuff. Can’t be too strong if it scratches that easy. Maybe the real rubberwood underneath is strong, but that picture on top, that ain’t so tough.
- Folks use it for all sorts of things, this wood. Furniture, like I said. And floors. And even them…what do you call ‘em… countertops, yeah, them things in the kitchen. Guess it’s pretty useful stuff.
But here’s the thing, I always say, you get what you pay for. If you want somethin’ that’ll last forever, you gotta spend the money. This laminate dancin’ hevea timber, it might be good for some folks, folks on a budget, ya know? But if you want the real deal, the good stuff, you gotta go with the solid wood, the stuff that’ll stand the test of time.
I remember when my husband, bless his soul, he built us a porch outta real wood. Took him weeks, but that porch, it was solid as a rock. We sat out there every evenin’, watched the sun go down. That’s the kinda stuff I like. Somethin’ real, somethin’ strong, somethin’ that’ll last.
So, this rubberwood with the picture on top? It might be alright, for some folks. But me, I like the real thing. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but that’s how I see it.
But hey, to each their own, right? If you like the way it looks, and it fits your budget, then go for it. Just don’t expect it to last forever, that’s all I’m sayin’. And make sure you take care of it, you know? Don’t drag heavy things across it, and wipe up spills right away. That’ll help it last a bit longer, I reckon.
And another thing, when you’re buyin’ this stuff, or any wood for that matter, make sure it’s dry. You don’t want no wet wood, it’ll warp and crack on ya. Kiln-dried, that’s what they call it. Means they baked it in a big oven to get all the water out. That’s the good stuff, the stuff that’ll stay straight and true.
