Okay, so I’ve been wanting to upgrade my home gym for a while now. I finally decided to go all out and install a proper volleyball court floor. You know, the real deal, sprung wooden flooring, just like the pros! This is my journey of putting it all together.
Getting Started
First, I cleared out the entire space. This was a bigger job than I anticipated! I had to move all my existing gym equipment, which was a workout in itself. I measured the area carefully, making sure to double and triple-check everything. I’m not exactly a pro at this, so I wanted to get it right from the start.
The Keel System
Next up was the keel system. This is basically the understructure that gives the floor its bounce. I opted for a pre-fabricated keel system, because, let’s be honest, building one from scratch seemed way too complicated. I laid out the keel pieces according to the instructions. It felt a bit like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle.
- Carefully arrange:I had make sure all keel are placed in correct position and aligned
- Securing:I use screw to tight all keels in place.
Laying the Parquet
Now for the fun part – the actual wooden flooring! The parquet pieces were beautiful, solid wood, and I couldn’t wait to see them all laid out. I started at one corner, carefully interlocking the pieces. It’s a tongue-and-groove system, so they fit together pretty snugly. I used a rubber mallet to gently tap them into place, making sure everything was nice and tight. This part was actually pretty therapeutic.
- Start slow:First time parquet flooring, slow and steady!
- Check leveling:keep using leveler to make sure all pieces are in same level.
The Finishing Touches
After all the parquet was down, I gave the entire floor a good sanding. This was to smooth out any minor imperfections and make sure the surface was perfectly even. Then, I applied several coats of polyurethane sealant. This will protect the wood and give it that nice, glossy finish. I’ve got told, that the more coats the longer it will hold, so better be generous!
The Final Result!
And that’s it! My very own, professional-grade volleyball court floor. It took a lot of work, and a few moments where I questioned my DIY abilities, but it was totally worth it. The floor feels amazing underfoot, and it looks incredible. Now, I just need to invite some friends over for a game!
