Okay, here’s my blog post about my experience with a keel, volleyball engineer board, and wooden flooring:

So, the other day I started this project. It was a bit of a doozy, I gotta say. It involved a keel, some volleyball engineer board, and, of course, wooden flooring. Now, I’m no expert, but I like to get my hands dirty and figure things out.

Getting Started

First things first, I had to prepare the area. I cleared out everything, making sure I had plenty of space to work. Then, I took a good look at the existing subfloor. It was pretty uneven, which is where the keel came in. The whole point of the keel is to give you a solid, level base.

I carefully measured the area and started constructing the keel. I used some sturdy timber I’d picked up. I made sure to double-check all my measurements. My mantra for this? Measure twice, cut once!

  • Cleared the area.
  • Checked the subfloor.
  • Measured and cut the keel timber.

The “Engineer Board” Part

Next up was the engineer board. This stuff is specially made for things like volleyball courts, so it’s designed to be super durable and have some give. Laying it down was a bit like putting together a giant puzzle. I had to make sure each piece fit snugly against the next, using a mallet to tap them into place.

I made sure that the engineer board was securely fixed to the keel. No wobbles allowed! I used plenty of screws, and it was laborious, but I did the work.

Finally, The Wooden Flooring

Now for the fun part – the actual wooden flooring! This is what everyone sees, so it had to look good. I chose a nice, light-colored wood that I thought would brighten up the space.

I started laying the planks, making sure to stagger the joints for a more natural look. It is like a puzzle.

Each plank clicked into place, which was super satisfying.

It took some time and I must say I got better as I moved along. I nailed and glued down and the floor started to take shape. There were a few tricky cuts around the edges, but I managed to get them pretty spot-on.

The Finished Product

After all the hard work, I finally finished! I stood back and admired my handiwork. It looked amazing! The floor was level, sturdy, and had a really professional finish.

I even bounced a volleyball on it a few times to test it out – perfect!

It was a challenging project, no doubt about it, but I learned a lot along the way. And the feeling of accomplishment? Totally worth it.
