Getting Started

First things first, I cleared out the space. This wasn’t some pristine gym; it was my buddy’s garage that he wanted to convert. So, we’re talking moving out old boxes, tools, the whole nine yards. Sweeping, vacuuming – the works. We needed a clean slate.

The Underlayment

Next up was the underlayment. This is crucial, people! It’s like the unsung hero of the whole operation. It provides cushioning and helps with sound absorption, because, you know, bouncing basketballs can get loud. We rolled it out, made sure it was smooth, and taped the seams together. It’s pretty straightforward, just like laying down a giant, padded sticker.

Laying the Flooring

Now for the main event: the flooring itself. The “parquet” part means it’s not just long planks; it’s smaller pieces arranged in a pattern. So, it adds a bit of a puzzle element.

• We started in one corner, carefully clicking the first few pieces together. It’s a tongue-and-groove system, so they kind of snap into place.
• Then, it was all about repeating the process. Click, click, click. Honestly, it was kind of therapeutic, like a giant, wooden jigsaw puzzle.
• We used a tapping block and a rubber mallet to gently tap the pieces together, making sure everything was snug and there were no gaps. Don’t go crazy with the mallet, though – you don’t want to damage the edges.
