Alright, let’s talk about puttin’ down them laminate dancing hard maple wooden floors, ya hear? It ain’t rocket science, but ya gotta do it right, or you’ll be trippin’ over your own feet.

First things first, get that floor ready. Ya can’t just slap them boards down on any ol’ mess. Sweep it up good, maybe even mop it a little if it’s real dirty. And if your floor’s all bumpy and uneven, well, you gotta fix that too. Otherwise, them boards gonna be wobblin’ all over the place. I seen it happen, ain’t pretty.

Now, about them tools. Ya need the right stuff, ya know? A hammer, a saw, somethin’ to measure with… I ain’t got no fancy names for ’em, but you’ll figure it out. Go to the store, tell ’em you’re puttin’ down a floor, they’ll set ya up. And don’t forget the knee pads! Your old knees ain’t what they used to be, trust me on that. Laying floors all day, it’ll make ya creak and groan like an old barn door.

Okay, so you got your floor clean, you got your tools. Now what? Well, the fella at the store told me these boards need to sit in the room for a couple of days. Said somethin’ about ’em gettin’ used to the air or somethin’. Sounded like a load of hooey to me, but I did it anyway. Better safe than sorry, I always say. The last thing you need is your new floors poppin’ up and warping.

Now comes the tricky part: putting the boards down. They got these little grooves and tongues, like puzzle pieces. Ya gotta fit ’em together just right. It ain’t always easy, lemme tell ya. Sometimes they stick, sometimes they don’t wanna go in at all. Ya gotta wiggle ’em, tap ’em, sometimes even cuss at ’em a little. But you’ll get the hang of it.

  • Start in a corner, that’s what I always do.
  • And make sure you leave a little space around the edges, for when the floor decides to swell up a bit with the weather. The fella at the store called it “expansion gap”. Fancy words for a little bit of wiggle room.
  • Keep goin’, board by board, row by row. It’s slow work, but it’s worth it in the end.

Now, there’s different ways to put these floors down, I hear. Some folks nail ’em, some folks glue ’em. These ones I got, they just click together. Like I said, like puzzle pieces. Makes it a whole lot easier, if you ask me. But whatever kind you got, just follow the directions. And if you don’t understand the directions, find a young’un who does. They can usually figure these things out.

And speaking of different kinds of floors, there’s all sorts out there. Hardwood, engineered wood… I ain’t no expert, but I know what I like. This hard maple, it’s tough stuff. It’ll stand up to all the stompin’ and dancin’ and whatever else you throw at it. That’s why I picked it. Plus, it looks nice and bright, cheers up the whole room. I always say, if you going to do it, do it right, and do it with something pretty.

So, you got your floor all laid down, lookin’ all pretty. Now what? Well, now you gotta clean up all the mess you made! Sawdust everywhere, little bits of wood… It’s a pain, I know, but it’s gotta be done. Sweep it up, vacuum it up, whatever it takes. Then, stand back and admire your work. You did it! You put down a whole floor all by yourself. You should be proud.

And that’s about it. That’s how you put down a laminate dancing hard maple wooden floor, or at least that’s how I do it. It ain’t always easy, but it’s worth it in the end. Now you got a floor that’ll last for years, maybe even longer if you take care of it. And if you get tired of lookin’ at it, well, you can always put another one down! Just kidding, don’t do that.

One last thing, if you’re not sure you can do it yourself, get someone to help you. There’s no shame in asking for a little help. Better to do it right, even if it takes a little longer and a few extra hands.

Remember measure twice, cut once, that’s what my husband always told me. Seems like good advice for floors too.
