Okay, so I’ve been wanting to set up a basketball court in my backyard for a while now. But I didn’t want to pour concrete or do anything permanent. I started looking into “portable basketball floors” and, man, there are a lot of options out there.
First, I measured my backyard space. I wanted to make sure I had enough room for a decent-sized playing area, plus some extra space around the edges. I grabbed a tape measure and some spray paint and marked the edges. It helps me to visualize the space.
Choosing the Right Tiles
Next, I dug into researching different types of tiles. There are these interlocking plastic ones, some made of rubber, and even some fancy ones that look like real hardwood. I read tons of reviews, watched some YouTube videos, and even visited some local stores to check them out in person.
- Plastic Tiles: Seemed like the most common and affordable option. Lots of different colors and styles.
- Rubber Tiles: Looked more durable, but also more expensive. Good for shock absorption, which my knees would probably appreciate.
- “Hardwood” Tiles: Super fancy, probably overkill for my backyard. And definitely out of my budget!
After a lot of back and forth, I decided to go with the plastic interlocking tiles. They seemed like a good balance of price, durability, and ease of installation.
Installation Time!
The tiles arrived in a bunch of boxes. I carried all boxes to my backyard, opened them, and laid out all the tiles. My son helped me with this part which was a ton of fun.
Putting them together was surprisingly easy. They just snap together like giant puzzle pieces. We started in one corner and worked our way across the marked area. It took a few hours, but it wasn’t hard work. My son and I took turns connecting the tiles, and it went pretty smoothly.
The Finished Product
Once all the tiles were connected, I stepped back to admire our work. It looked awesome! A real, legit-looking basketball court, right in my backyard. We immediately grabbed a basketball and started shooting hoops. It felt great! The surface was firm but had a little bit of give, which was nice.
Overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out. It was a fun project, relatively easy to do, and now we have a great place to play basketball whenever we want. Plus, if we ever move, we can just unsnap the tiles and take them with us. Pretty cool, right?
