Okay, here’s my attempt at writing like a regular person sharing their DIY project, focusing on the process and keeping it super casual:

So, the other day I decided to tackle this project: putting in some wooden flooring, but not just any wooden flooring. This was going to be for a little indoor volleyball practice area, and I wanted to give it a bit of “bounce,” you know? Like a real court. So, I went with this keel and sleeper system.

Getting Started

First thing, I cleared out the space. This was probably the most boring part. Moved all the junk out, swept up, the whole nine yards. It’s gotta be clean, right?

Then, I laid down some plastic sheeting. A friend of mine had a bunch extra he did not use, so I just get it for free. I think you are supposed to do this to stop moisture or something. I just taped the edges down with some packing tape I had lying around.

Building the Keel Thing

Okay, the “keel.” I’m not even sure if that’s the right word, but it’s what I’m calling it. Basically, it’s the main support beam running down the middle. I used a couple of long 2x4s, and I screwed them together to make it thicker. I mean, I used a lot of screws. Probably overkill, but hey, better safe than sorry.

The Sleepers

Next up, the “sleepers.” These are the cross pieces that go perpendicular to the keel. Again, 2x4s. I measured out the spacing – I think I did them about 16 inches apart, center to center. Just eyeballed it, mostly. Then I cut them all to length with my circular saw. My cuts weren’t perfect, but who’s gonna see them, right?

Attaching the sleepers to the keel was a bit of a pain. I used these metal bracket things – angle brackets, I think they’re called. Screwed those into the keel and then screwed the sleepers into the brackets. It took a while, and my back was definitely complaining by the end of it.

Putting the Floor on the frame

  • First I check and make sure it’s all kinda * can’t be perfectly level,so I just make sure it won’t wobble.
  • Then I cut the plywood to size.
  • After that I screwed the wood floor to the sleepers, starting at one corner.

The “Bounce”

The key to the whole “volleyball court” feel was adding some padding under the sleepers. I did some looking on the good old net and found these rubber pads. I just cut them up and stuck them under the sleepers. They’re kinda squishy, so they give the floor that little bit of give.

The Finishing Touches

I just used regular plywood for the flooring surface.I got a few sheets and started laying them down, and that was pretty much it! Floor done!.

It’s not perfect, by any means. There are some gaps here and there, and the whole thing probably isn’t perfectly *,I built it myself! And the floor bounces now!
