Alright, so I’ve been wanting to redo the flooring in my living room for, like, forever. The old carpet was just… gross. Stains, worn spots, you name it. I finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it. After way too much online browsing, I landed on this “keel dancing hevea assembly wooden flooring” thing. Sounded fancy, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I ripped out that nasty old carpet. That was a workout in itself! Underneath was just plain old plywood subfloor, thankfully in pretty good shape. No major cracks or anything scary.
The “Keel” Part
Okay, this “keel” business. Apparently, it’s like a support structure for the floorboards. It came in these long strips of wood that I had to lay down first. I measured the room (multiple times, because I’m paranoid) and cut the keel pieces to fit. Used a regular hand saw for that, nothing fancy.
- Measure the room.
- Cut keel strips.
- Lay down keel strips.
The “Dancing” (Assembly) Part
Then came the actual flooring. These “hevea” planks – which I guess is some kind of rubberwood – clicked together. It was kind of like a giant jigsaw puzzle, but way more satisfying. You just line them up and snap them into place. No glue, no nails, just this clever little interlocking system.
- Align the flooring.
- Snap them into place.
Finishing Touches
Once all the planks were down, I added some baseboards around the edges to cover up the gaps. That was probably the trickiest part, getting all the angles right. But with a little patience (and a few miscuts, whoops), I got it done.
Honestly, the whole thing took me a couple of weekends, working on and off. But the result? Totally worth it. My living room looks a million times better. It’s brighter, cleaner, and just… nicer. And I did it all myself! Pretty proud of that, not gonna lie.
