Alright, let’s jaw about this basketball floorin’ stuff, the kind they use for the big games, you know? Like, the real fancy ones. They call it FIBA somethin’ somethin’, basketball floorin’, real high-falutin’ names, but it’s just floorin’ at the end of the day, ain’t it?
This FIBA bunch, they got rules, you see. Like, if you wanna have a real serious game, your floor gotta be a certain way. They call it Level 1 somethin’, means it’s good enough for the big shots, I reckon. They got all these requirements, gotta be just so.
And then there’s the portable floors. Yeah, floors you can move around! Imagine that! They been makin’ these things since way back when basketball first started, seems like. They use ’em for all sorts of big games, like that college championship, the Final Four, and even the Olympics. Some NBA team, the Milwaukee Bucks, they use this fancy new kind, so I heard.
Now, about that wood floorin’ again. They say it’s a top choice, ’cause it lasts a long time and plays good. But I tell ya, wood and water don’t mix. If it rains, you gotta have a way to drain that water, or you’ll ruin the whole thing. These smart fellas, they figured out how to do that, puttin’ drains at the bottom so the water don’t mess up the floor and the players’ legs.
- They use somethin’ called Hevea, too. It’s wood, but from rubber trees. They say it’s good for the environment, ’cause they use the trees after they can’t make rubber no more. Smart, I guess, makin’ use of everything.
- Most places, though, they use somethin’ called PVC or vinyl, or maybe sport tiles, or even just plain ol’ concrete or asphalt. But that vinyl stuff, that’s the most popular, they say.
- And when they put down them wood floors, they usually do it in a straight line, plank after plank. Looks nice, I gotta say, real classic like.
So, there you have it. All sorts of ways to make a basketball floor. Wood, plastic, tiles, you name it. And they gotta be strong, gotta drain water, and gotta meet all them FIBA rules if you wanna be fancy. But at the end of the day, it’s just a floor, right? A place to bounce a ball and run around. Though, I gotta admit, some of them floors are pretty darn nice lookin’.
It’s amazin’ what they come up with these days. Back in my day, we just played on dirt, mostly. But I guess times change, and folks want things fancier, even for basketball. Still, it’s all about the game, ain’t it? The floor just helps you play it better, I reckon.
So whether it’s hardwood, or that vinyl stuff, or somethin’ else entirely, as long as them fellas can run and jump and shoot that ball, the floor’s done its job. And that’s all that really matters, now ain’t it?
