Okay, so the other day I decided to tackle this project I’ve been putting off – building a keel for a basketball court using sleeper timbers. Here’s how the whole thing went down:
First, I measured out the area where I wanted the court to be. Gotta make sure you have enough space, right? It’s super important to double and triple-check those measurements, nothing worse than starting and realizing your space is off.
Then, I cleared the ground. This was a workout in itself. Pulled out weeds, removed any rocks, and basically made sure the surface was as level and smooth as I could get it.I use a shovel and a rake to get the work done.
Next up, I got my hands on some sleeper timbers. These things are heavy! Make sure you’ve got a buddy or some way to move them safely. My old neighbor helped me.
Laying the Timbers
- I started laying out the timbers for the perimeter, forming the outer boundary of the keel. Think of it like building a big, low wooden box.
- Then, I use screws to fixed them.Make sure the four corners are securely fastened to create a strong overall structure.
- I made sure to check the level constantly. Used a long level and made adjustments as needed. Nobody wants a wonky court.
- Cut some more sleepers, use them to form the frame inside the box.
After that, It’s done! I’m so happy for my * kids love it!
