So, I decided to install a basketball engineer board wooden floor in my house. You know, for that authentic gym feel!

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to measure the area where I wanted the floor. I grabbed my trusty tape measure and got to work. I figured out the square footage and then added a bit extra for any mistakes (because, let’s be honest, I’m no pro!).

Choosing the Wood

Next up, choosing the wood. I went to a local lumber yard.I looked at a bunch of different options, maple, oak, but i have no idea which one is the best. Finally, I found a kind old man, he looks like professional carpenter, I told him my plan, and he recommended me a good wood. I took his advice and went with it.

Prepping the Subfloor

Before I could even think about laying down the new floor, I had to prep the subfloor. My existing floor was concrete, so I made sure it was clean, level, and dry. This involved sweeping, vacuuming, and even using a self-leveling compound in a couple of spots.

Installing the Keel

  • This is where the “keel” part comes in. I laid down wooden beams (the keel) perpendicular to the direction I wanted the floorboards to run.
  • I spaced them out evenly, using spacers to ensure consistency.
  • Then, I secured them to the subfloor using concrete screws. This was a workout!

Laying the Floorboards

With the keel in place, it was finally time to lay the floorboards. I started at one wall and worked my way across the room, locking the boards together using their tongue-and-groove system. I used a rubber mallet to tap them into place and made sure each board was snug against the next.

The Finishing Touches

Once all the boards were down, I installed baseboards around the perimeter of the room to cover the expansion gap. Then, I applied several coats of polyurethane finish to protect the wood and give it that classic basketball court shine. It took a few days for the finish to dry completely, but it was worth the wait.

Final Result!

And there you have it! My very own basketball engineer board wooden floor. It was a lot of work, but I’m super happy with how it turned out. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go shoot some hoops!
