Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get this done for ages, and today was finally the day! I’m talking about putting up those batten volleyball supports in the yard. I decided to go with larch timber because, well, it just looks great and it’s supposed to be pretty durable.

Getting Started

First things first, I gathered all my materials. I had the larch timber already, but I needed to grab some screws, a drill, a level, a saw (just in case), and my trusty measuring tape. Oh, and of course, my work gloves – safety first, even if it’s just a backyard project!

Prepping the Timber

Next, I measured out the timber. I wanted the battens to be a decent height, so I went with… well, let’s just say “tall enough” for a good game of volleyball. I’m not going pro or anything. After measuring twice (measure twice, cut once, that’s my motto!), I marked where I needed to cut,If there need cut.

Attaching the Battens

This was the slightly trickier part. I held the first piece of timber up against where I wanted it, making sure to consider the level, and then drilled in the first screw. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking, hoping you’ve got it straight! Once the first screw was in, it was much easier to add the rest, keeping everything nice and aligned.

I repeated this process for the other, making sure they were spaced correctly for the net. Eyeballing it is fine for me, but if you’re going for perfection, you might want to use a spacer or something.

The Finished Product

And… that’s pretty much it! It’s not exactly rocket science, but it’s satisfying to get it done. Now I’ve got a sturdy, good-looking setup for some backyard volleyball. The larch timber really does look sharp. I’m pretty pleased with how it all turned out. Time to invite some friends over for a game!
